PAIN: THE GOOD NEWS
IS YOU DON'T HAVE TO SUFFER!

The New York State Society of Anesthesiologists recommends you see an anesthesiologist/pain specialist when:

  • Your current treatment gives little or no relief
  • Treatment makes you feel "out of it" for long periods of time
  • You want a second opinion to make sure you are aware of all the available options for your condition

FOR YOUR VISIT, BE SURE TO BRING
Patient_Consultation Another family member for support and who can provide a "second pair of ears" to listen to the doctor's instructions and answers.
Patient_Diary A diary of your pain including the date, time of day, what you were doing, the severity of the pain and any other information for the 2-3 days prior to your visit.
Prescriptions A list of all over-the-counter (otc) and prescription medications you are taking and the dosages.
Medical_Questions Questions or concerns you have about your condition and/or treatment.

NOTE: Make sure you write down your questions. Bring a pad with you to write down the doctor's answers, or a tape recorder. This will help when you are at home and can't remember what was said at the time. Medical visits are usually busy and full of distractions.
