- Residents Research Contest -

The Residents Research Contest is open to international competition.
This Program provides researchers with an excellent opportunity to
introduce him/herself to the global anesthesia community.
Monetary awards were given for the best presentations.
The contest was conducted poster-style on Saturday, December 8th,
2007 during the PGA 61 conference. Prizes were awarded prior to
the E.A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture on Monday, December 10, 2007.

At the Rovenstine Lecture, left to right, above, Dr. Cynthia A. Lien, Residents Research Contest Chair, Dr. Andrew D. Rosenberg, PGA Scientific Programs Chair and Dr. Rebecca S. Twersky, PGA General Chair, congratulate Minjae Kim, M.D. of the Department of Anesthesiology, Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, New York, New York, the 1st place winner for "Isoflurane Mediates Protection from Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury via Sphingosine and Sphingosine-1-Phosphate Dependent Pathways."

Riess, M.D., Ph.D. of the Department of Anesthesiology, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who placed second for his presentation of "Differential Increase of Mitochondrial Matrix Volume by Sevoflurane in Isolated Cardiac Mitochondria."
