RESIDENTS RESEARCH CONTEST
held at PGA 60, December 8-12, 2006
at the New York Marriott Marquis
in New York City

The Residents Research Contest is open to international competition.
This Program provides researchers with an excellent opportunity to introduce him/herself to the global anesthesia community.
Monetary awards were given for the best presentations.
The contest was conducted poster-style on Saturday, December 9th,
2006 during the PGA 60 conference.
Remy Vahan Hakobyan, M.D., Chair of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Yerevan State Medical University, Dept. of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Erebuni Medical Center, Yerevan, Armenia with his presentation, "Epidural Analgesia Decreases Intra-abdominal Pressure in Postoperative Patients with Intra-abdominal Hypertension."
Luvell L. Glanton, Jr., M.D. of the Department of Anesthesiology, SUNY-Health Science Center at Buffalo, Buffalo, New York with his presentation, "The Effects of Apoptosis of Alveolar Macrphages in Aspiration Induced Lung Injury."
3rd place Winner: Dr. Hannah Wunsch of the Department of Anesthesiology, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, New York, New York, for “Increased Mortality Associated with Acute Respiratory Failure of Extra-Pulmonary Origin”.
2nd place Winner: Oliver Kimberger, M.D. of the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Bern, Switzerland for “Effect of Supplemental Oxygen and Supplemental Crystalloid Fluid on Tissue Oxygenation in Healthy and Anastomotic Colon Tissue”.
1st place Winner: Dr. George Gallos, of the Department of Anesthesiology, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, New York, New York, for “Lidocaine Infusion Protects Against Murine Septic Peritonitis Via Activation of P13 Kinase and Gi Pathways”.
The PGA 60 Residents Research Contest Committee confers on the entries.
