Standing Committees
The Academic Anesthesiology Committee considers matters particular to the Academic practice of Anesthesiology as they relate to the Society’s Mission, Goals and Objectives and to serve as a resource for the Society’s Officers and Board of Directors in issues regarding Academic Anesthesiology.
The Bylaws and Rules Committee considers matters pertaining to the Bylaws and Rules, and to make such recommendations as may arise therein in order to further the work of this Society.
The Communications Committee combines the duties and responsibilities of the former Public Education and Information, Editorial Board, and Electronic Communications Committees. The Committee on Communications will be charged with evaluating and implementing the NYSSA’s communication content and methods both internally and externally in a manner consistent with the Society’s Mission Statement and Organizational Values.
The Continuing Medical Education & Remediation Committee coordinates the activities of the Society as they relate to education and remediation.
The Critical Care Medicine Committee considers issues and matters related to the specialty and practice of critical care medicine.
The Economic Affairs Committee considers matters affecting the economic status of the practice of anesthesiology as well as matters pertaining to the economic affairs of the Society in relation to the public, to other organizations and to its members. Also to consider matters of pertinence to anesthesiologists which arise in the State or Federal Legislatures. Advise and make reports and recommendations to the Executive Committee and to the Board of Directors in regard to these matters.
The Government and Legal Affairs Committee considers matters pertaining to the legal affairs of the Society in relation to the public and to other organizations. Also, to consider matters of pertinence to anesthesiologists arising in the State or Federal Legislatures. Advise and make reports and recommendations to the Executive Committee and to the Board of Directors in regard to these matters.
The Judicial and Awards Committee shall confidentially consider all matters concerning the ethics, professional conduct and potential conflict of interest of members of this Society. To consider those anesthesiologists who have made outstanding contributions to the Society and/or the field of anesthesiology in New York State for the annual NYSSA Distinguished Service Award.
The Pain Management Committee considers issues and matters related to the specialty and practice of pain management.
The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Committee considers matters regarding quality management and peer review; to affect liaison and coordinate its functions whenever desirable and practicable with other agencies concerned with such matters; and to concern itself with, and emphasize, quality of patient care.
The Professional Diversity Committee considers issues and matters related to professional development, career satisfaction, well-being and inclusion of members of diverse backgrounds. The Committee is also charged with addressing health care disparities, as they pertain to the specialty of anesthesiology.
The Retirement Committee advances and promotes the issues of interest to the retired membership of the NYSSA.
The Women Physicians Committee educates, empowers, and engages women physicians in the field of Anesthesiology, in order to advance the careers of women physicians and recruit future generations for our specialty. The committee’s goals are to enable its members to advance, collaborate, lead and seek equal opportunities in the practice of Anesthesiology.
PGA Committees
The Committee on Annual Sessions is comprised of NYSSA and PGA leadership overseeing the planning and delivery of the PGA Annual Meeting. It establishes the meeting’s overall program structure and coordinates its scientific, educational, and operational activities.
The Case-Based Learning Discussions Committee solicits and reviews small-group sessions centered on clinically relevant cases. These interactive discussions encourage participants to explore decision-making, problem-solving, and the practical application of current knowledge.
The International Scholars Committee expands access to the PGA for qualified anesthesiologists from around the world who have limited financial resources. The committee selects scholars, supports their participation, and helps them benefit fully from the meeting’s educational and professional opportunities.
The Scientific Exhibits and Poster Presentations Committee oversees the solicitation, review, and presentation of scientific posters, medically challenging cases, and quality-improvement projects. It provides a forum for sharing research, clinical experience, and innovative approaches in anesthesiology
The Scientific Panels Committee develops timely, evidence-based sessions that address identified professional gaps in anesthesiology. The committee selects topics, moderators, and faculty and evaluates sessions to support an engaging and relevant scientific program.
The Spotlight Sessions Committee develops focused programs addressing current issues and identifying educational needs in anesthesiology. Sessions are solicited and reviewed by committee members and designed to provide clinically relevant insights through presentations and expert discussion.
The Technical Exhibits Committee helps coordinate the PGA exhibit program and evaluates exhibits for their suitability and relevance to attendees. The committee also supports relationships with exhibitors and sponsors to help create an informative and engaging exhibit experience
The Workshops Committee develops interactive, hands-on educational experiences based on professional needs and participant feedback with a goal to improve learner performance. The committee works with faculty to deliver practical sessions that strengthen clinical knowledge and skills.
The Young Investigator Research Contest Committee provides emerging investigators with an opportunity to present original research at the PGA. The committee organizes the competition, evaluates presentations, and recognizes outstanding work.
